Styles
This is ORIGINAL FiltersetP userstyle without need for the AdBlock extension. I do have a couple of additions I'll be incorporating over the next week. As I find new elements/source/href blocks, I incorporate them after sufficient TESTING.I have a self-imposed responsibility to make sure people don't have false positives. Please DO NOT incorporate ANY of this FiltersetP Style when forming other "adblocking compilation" styles. False positives are nasty, and if there's "versions of versions of copied subversions," people will complain with no recourse since they're not using THIS one, the PROPER one. The original worked ALL this time for me, but since I'm updating for myself I will pass along some improvements to you all.
I find avatars and emoticons on forums annoying. Always have. I just want to read the posts. Most "good" forums allow you to disable avatars/emoticons but often still show them if "sourced" from places other than the forum. This will allow you to block either or both - based on personal taste. Some find smiley's valuable to convey "meaning," so in that case just block the avatars - you get the idea. Please visit www.tagworld.com/paulfox for more filterset information.
For those of you using "SMALL icons" in toolbar/statusbar, these avoid the whole "roach / no roach / old vs new / etc" drama. Intuitive "green for on, red for off;" I simply created slightly smaller 14x14 icons to make "crisper," line up better with other icons (especially Stylish icon in StatusBar) and drastically reduce the amount of base 64 code necessary.. Switching to "large icons" will simply default to the standard 0.7 "roach" type. Also, THIS version will work in your userChrome should you decide to commit this script to chrome.
This gives background color to your CustomButtons buttons - all of them. Another style (separate) will allow for individual button background colors. This is handy if you want them to stand out whether grouped together or separate; I use the other "specific" one to only color "Multi Search" buttons (developed by Lou Cypher/Zoolcar9 and invaluable to me - thanks Lou!).
This will color an individual CustomButtons extension button to any color you wish; you will need to know what "specific number" it is however. Depending on whether or not you have Dom Inspector, change the number of each button as required (they start with "0"). My example below is what I use; if you only have 3-4 buttons then play with changing the # at the end of each button to "1," "2," or "3" and eliminating/adding as necessary (you may only need #custombuttons-button1 {background: yellow!important} for example) I use it to differentiate Multi search buttons based on a great multi-image search button developed by Lou Cypher/Zoolcar9 available here:
Depending on whether or not you're now subject to the "New GMail Format" as of October 29th, 2007 - this will clean up the underlining in the left side boxes (Compose and Labels window). One of my 3 GMail(s) is on the new format, currently with an option to use "older version." PLEASE NOTE that the red bold "Compose Mail" and "Contacts" labels are the result of one of my other styles. I REALLY like this new version of GMail - and the added space - but got used to having no underlines. I'm reworking some of my other GMail scripts as time permits - most problematic will be the "colored buttons" style. Right now it's a "default all green," but hopefully we'll get some variations soon.
Updated November 13th (and previously end of October) because of element name changes. Many thanks (AGAIN) to Moktoipas for solving this new element problem; I had it almost nailed but wasn't "getting it perfect." If icons are not the right size for your liking, try going smaller on the Height and Padding "Px" numbers. These work for me in 1280x1024. This is based on the original GREAT Moktoipas script for giving attachment icons in your GMail. Invaluable for sorting through emails and seeing if an attachment is a "known" or "common" filetype. I have shortened the original script to 5k by making icons simpler (shorter base64 code), and combining Word, Excel and Text into one icon. I have eliminated .exe, since GMail won't allow you to send those anyway. I tested "dangerous" file types with an exclamation mark, but it was moot since GMail won't allows those to be sent either (vbs, etc). Also optimized the code and changed some syntax, so now images, pdf, zip, text and css
**************** Important Update: As of October 29th 2007: Oh oh. There are, as of today, TWO Versions of GMail. To get these button colors, you will have to select "Older Version" in the top right corner. The "New" Version has changed all button element types (class) to ".BuNwUe" and the only delineation is "textContent: "Archive" for example. So unless you select "Older Version," this script will either fall by the wayside or I'll update it if possible when I have some time. Addendum 8:15PM PST - after 3 hours, I've managed to fix Bold Label Names and some Red Bold Text for Compose, Contacts, etc. I've found some possible solution(s) for these button colors involving "nodeValue," and will work on this more later this evening. This may not be an issue for some of you, but I believe GMail will be updating for all users within next couple of days. The GREAT news is . . . you've got another 1.5GB of storage, and the functionality is MUCH improved - they did a great job.
Gmail just added something I've wanted for a long time - the ability to forward all messages in a conversation at once. Hooray! Perhaps due to my over-exhuberance (GOD I love GMail!), I've made that "far right menu option" stand out in bold red. I believe the div[class="ar'} would apply to all items in that list, but I just wanted "Forward All" to stand out. You can obviously change the font size/color (MOST of you will! Ha ha!) below; this is just my preference.
This is my "work in progress" toward coloring the GMail buttons now their site has changed. FOR NOW, all the buttons are green - I wanted black, but that screwed up the new Contacts Page Buttons. I'm working on delineating the individual buttons but it's seemingly rather difficult and I won't have any more time tonight. Rather a pain, and I've been on it 3 hours already. My former script here was very popular, but it's not working as of 10/29/07 due to a site change. GOOD News . . . GMail is much improved, bigger mailbox size, and larger contact photos and contact list controls. Very cool!
